Pen Riding – 5. Removing an Animal from the Pen

This course is part of the Fundamentals of Pen Riding online skills training.  

Successfully removing an animal requires both skill and patience, all while keeping the animal’s wellbeing a top priority and minimising stress levels. Obtain the knowledge to adhere to safe work practices, recognise removal risks, document crucial information, and employ low-stress handling techniques to remove animals from their pens.


This online course covers the steps to safely and effectively remove animals from their pens.


After completion of the online training, an on the ground competency assessment is available so you can demonstrate your skills and competency in this area.


This E-learning series has been by funded grain-fed levies and matching federal government R&D contributions in consultation with the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association.

Learning outcomes and competencies
By the end of this course, you will know how to: 

  • Recognise the challenges associated with isolating a social animal
  • Follow safe work practices
  • Identify potential risks involved with removing an animal
  • Record vital information about the animal being removed
  • Apply low-stress handling techniques to effectively isolate and remove an animal

Training Location and Delivery method

Online Training course, delivered via the Feedlot TECH Training Hub. Approximately 1 hour in length.

Free to all feedlots, employees and industry associated individuals.
