This course is part of the Fundamentals of Feedlot Nutrition, Feeding and Milling Operations online skills training.
Various roles throughout the feedlot are involved in commodity and ration testing. The success of your feedlot is dependent on the health and
productivity of the cattle, and the efficiency of your feedlot. By following testing and quality control procedures you will play your part in providing healthy, nutritional feed that produces top performing cattle.
Playing your part means understanding the processes and quality controls in place across the areas of feeding and milling.

This E-learning series has been by funded grain-fed levies and matching federal government R&D contributions in consultation with the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association.
Learning outcomes and competencies
By the end of this course, you will know how to:
- What you need to know about grain testing processes, GTA standards, commodity vendor declaration and considerations of when to consider rejecting delivery of a commodity.
- When and how to sample rations and conduct tests.
- Understanding the impact of residues on cattle, markets and the function of the National Residue Survey (NRS).
- Information about grain treatments at the feedlot and considerations for and use of medicated feed.
- Milling cleanliness and hygiene practices.
- Quality control (QC) practices and identification of critical control points.

Online Training course, delivered via the Feedlot TECH Training Hub. Approximately 1 hour in length.
