Livestock Handling – 5. Animal Wellbeing for Transport

Provided by: Feedlot TECH

This course is part of the Fundamentals of Livestock Handling online skills training.

The aim of bringing cattle to a feedlot is to help them reach a certain weight as quickly and efficiently as possible to provide beef products for market. The livestock transport process needs to be done well to ensure cattle leaving the feedlot arrive at the processor in the best possible condition to support optimal animal welfare. One of the most important parts of preparing cattle for transport is assessing their fitness for loading and the transport journey.

This online course covers the basics in assessing the fitness of the animal for the journey, determining marginal cattle needing further assessment and understanding the challenges of all parties when cattle are not fit for the journey.

After completion of the online training, an on the ground competency assessment is available so you can demonstrate your skills and competency in this area.

This E-learning series has been by funded grain-fed levies and matching federal government R&D contributions in consultation with the Australian Lot Feeders’ Association.
