This qualification reflects the role of workers who are responsible for the administration and day to day business operations of an agricultural or horticultural production enterprise.
About the Course
The Certificate IV in Agribusiness course is designed for people who would like to improve their farm business skills.
You have up to two years to complete this course in a self-paced online format. Your learning time includes not only the time you spend working on the course materials, but also your time for reflection and thinking about what you have learned as you go about your normal activities. RuralBiz estimate the total learning time may be up to 20 hours per week for some students. Of course, this will vary according to your existing skills and knowledge.
Course Outcomes and Units Achieved
The Certificate IV in Agribusiness requires the completion of 12 units of competency made up of 3 core units, plus 9 elective units.
Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification’s Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome. The electives are to be chosen as follows:
- At least 7 units from the elective list
- Up to 2 units from this or any other endorsed Training Package or Accredited Course
- AHCAGB405 – Analyse and interpret production data
- AHCAGB406 – Keep financial records for primary production business
- AHCWHS401 – Maintain work health and safety processes

Recognition of Prior Learning (RLP) is available to assess your existing skills and knowledge and if you have previously completed any nationally accredited training you may be eligible for credit transfers.
Entry Requirements and Pre-requisites
There are no prerequisites to complete this course, however some course entry requirements do apply.
Students should have completed schooling Year 10 or equivalent or be able to demonstrate similar literacy and numeracy levels. Students must be actively engaged in farming/ horticulture, or have ready access to and knowledge of a farm/horticulture business which can be used for completion of assessment tasks.
If you are not part of the farm business, RuralBiz Training may require you to provide contact details for the owner or manager to confirm your access to the farm
Students must have basic computer skills (use of the internet, email, basic word processing skills) and have access to a computer with at least Windows 7, Word 97, Excel 97, Adobe Reader and satellite broadband internet connection or similar. If you have a Mac computer, we suggest you talk to a computer technician about installing the Windows environment
All students are required to complete a literacy and numeracy test as part of our enrolment process.
Workplace and Equipment requirements
To ensure adequate completion of assessment tasks, the students chosen farm or horticulture business should show these characteristics:
- Operated as a business for profit
- Have a commercial scale
- Have agricultural enterprises such as commercial crops or livestock
- Be close to where you live so you can be physically on it regularly (e.g. weekly)
- Be able to provide you with details of past production, management processes, costs, prices etc.
This training is available Australia wide through flexible online learning systems.
Delivery Methods and timing
Standard enrolment for a full qualification is 2 years. The training offers flexibility so students can progress more quickly during their quiet periods and request extensions during peak periods.

Training costs vary depending on student eligibility for state government subsidies, which are available for students in NSW, QLD and SA. Subsidy amounts vary and may cover up to 100% of the course fee. Eligibility requirements apply. No upfront payments are required.
The full course fee before any eligible subsidy is $8,000.
